SylvanSport to Host Free "Adventure Movie Night" at Their Factory In Brevard

The River Runner

Brevard, NC – October 12, 2021 – SylvanSport invites the public for a free screening of the film The River Runner on Thursday, October 21. Bring a camp chair, drinks, and a snack and enjoy this inspiring movie at their 21 Welcome Street location – about midway down Ecusta Road in Brevard.

The River Runner follows legendary kayaker Scott Lindgren as he attempts to complete an extreme, unprecedented whitewater expedition 20 years in the making. When a brain tumor derails his goals, he sinks into the darkness of his own trauma only to discover that healing, like any expedition, is not a destination but a journey.

As a special bonus, both Scott Lindgren and the filmmaker, Russ Sturgess, will be joining the event via Zoom for a Q&A session following the movie.

“We love being able to welcome the community into our building for a movie night. Being in the outdoor industry, we select films featuring unique outdoor adventures from around the world and bring these stories to Western North Carolina,” commented Ann Buchman, SylvanSport VP of Marketing & Sales. “And the fact that our founder, Tom Dempsey, knows the adventurers always makes it fun.”

SylvanSport will project the movie on the “big screen” inside their warehouse and will have fresh popcorn available. Ample indoor space will allow for social distancing during viewing and bringing a mask will also be an option.

The 90-minute film will start at 7:00 PM with doors opening at 6:00 PM, so attendees can browse the factory store and enjoy 25% off all outdoor gear. 10% of all gear sales that night will be donated to First Descents, a national non-profit whose mission it is to provide life-changing outdoor adventures for young adults impacted by cancer and other serious health conditions. Direct donations for First Descents will also be accepted at the event.

The founder of First Descents, Brad Ludden, will provide an introduction to the movie as well as some brief information about the organization via a Zoom call at the start of the film.
